What is DART?
DART saves programming effort required to respond to IDRs (Information Document Request) by the IRS. The ability to reply to IDRs becomes even more difficult once the company starts implementing data archiving. Therefore, it is recommended to implement DART before installing Data archiving on the SAP systems. The extracted data could be used for generating reports using DART views for replying to IRS requests.DART has also the capability to withdraw and merge information out of the archive files and SAP database, but the extraction process is prolonged. DART is delivered as a standard tool from 4.5 release of SAP onwards and it is back transportable till 3.0D. The collected data can be saved externally into a file system or into any third party solution using SAP archive link interface. Although the tool has been developed to reply to most of the audit requirements, it is necessary to configure DART to fulfill all the requirements for any particular company. DART tool provides the ability to enhance its reporting capabilities by adding new segments or by adding fields to already existing segments.
Why do companies need to implement DART?
It is very beneficial to have a tool that quickly extracts specific data and helps reply to any kinds of present and future audits. DART not only fulfills IRS requirements, but can also be used to search historical information such as master records and transactional data. Growing SAP database will compel the companies to implement data archiving before DART. Even after the data is archived, companies still have to comply with legal retention and IRS audit demands. DART is the tool that helps companies comply.
