What is Data Archiving?
Data archiving is a method, which can help enterprises reduce the size of their database and keep the database growth under control. Data archiving helps removing historical data as well as redundant data, which has little or no value for the enterprise and occupies valuable space.
The archived data is kept in a structure and proprietary format outside the SAP database. The greatness of the system is that the archived data can be accessed and retrieved by the user using standard SAP transactions.
Why do companies need data archiving?
In today's enterprise scenarios, the business transactions are increasing on a daily basis. This uncontrollable increase of database results in:
• Slower response time (OLTP)
• Smaller windows for batch runs and backups
• Less productivity from the enterprise system
• The reports take a longer time to process and repeatedly time out
• The user is overloaded with accumulated data and finds itself wasting time finding relevant information. Some examples are: drop-downs results and search of master data.
• Expired data that are non-compliant with the record retention policy of a company.
To keep the enterprise system in a healthy system status, the database size and growth has to be kept under control. Data archiving is the one-stop solution.
Why Auritas?
Auritas consultants implement the project and help you go live methodically. The consultant can single-handle the project with little assistance from the functional and technical resources of the company. The archiving project can be installed in parallel with other SAP on-going projects.
