What is Data Migration?
Data Migration is a process in which companies consolidate one or more enterprise systems into a single instance. The data in the legacy systems are primarily used for historical access. These legacy systems have to be up and running all the time for users to find information out of them. For sure, maintaining systems for only historical access is an expensive option and is resource intensive. The data migration process involves in depth analysis of the structure of data on the legacy systems (SAP or Non SAP); the consultant prepares a migration procedure and links the migrated data from the legacy system to the live enterprise system. This ported data can then be merged with the online data or kept mutually exclusive.
Why do companies need to migrate data?
The companies face a daunting task of maximizing the efficiency of operations by embracing new technologies and reducing the cost of operations of the current systems. Data Migration helps companies simplify their system landscape by havingonly a single system for unlimited access to all kind of data. Large savings can quickly be observed due to the removal of expenditures for running the legacy system and human resource. SAP has provided time saving tools and methods to fulfill the tasks of data migration. Examples of those methods are reporting and single document display.
